You've thought it, maybe even said it. The holiday hoopla seems to start earlier every year. So why would this year be any different? Well, because pretty much everything about 2020 has been different. The pandemic is now part of our everyday life. That means normal things like sampling food at Costco have required some modification. This year we’ll likely skip knocking on stranger’s doors for candy, and there’ll be no sitting on Santa’s lap. You'll be giving him your Christmas list from 6 feet away.
The pandemic is even shaping the holiday shopping season. Black Friday has long been considered the official kick-off to holiday shopping. Over the last few years we have seen Black Friday gradually encroaching on Thanksgiving with doorbuster deals replacing turkey and dressing. It’s called Christmas creep. The Urban Dictionary defines it as, “A phenomenon where the Christmas season starts earlier and earlier each year.” Shoppers are a dedicated bunch, but this year even hard-core shoppers are apprehensive about being in crowded spaces, even if it means deep discounts. Good news! In lieu of Black Friday, most retailers are planning smaller savings events spread out over November and December, all in efforts to reduce big in-store crowds the day after Thanksgiving. So no need to arm wrestle for the last flat screen TV. You'll have several opportunities to buy a TV that won't require standing in a line. To further prevent the bottle-neck of shoppers that typically starts on Thursday, most retailers will remain closed on Thanksgiving Day. That means employees get to spend the day with their families and we’ll all have plenty of time for seconds. Amen and pass the sweet potatoes...again.
There will be plenty of online shopping opportunities, but even e-shopping will have its challenges. First, you can expect higher shipping fees as most major carriers have announced surcharges for the holiday season. And if you've ordered online in the last few months, you've probably experienced shipping delays. We can expect this trend to continue and be compounded by the added pressure of the holidays. Shippers say they expect seven million more packages than they are prepared to handle. USPS has already
released their shipping schedule and packages going ground service must be postmarked by December 15. All of this means planning ahead for online ordering, or Santa may be fashionably late. Whether shopping online or in-store, consider starting sooner rather than later, or you risk facing sold-out stock situations. Factory closures and shipping challenges have affected the supply chain, and many retailers are low on inventory. Beyond that, many retailers have intentionally scaled back inventory levels, unsure of what to expect for the fourth quarter. Overall, there is just less “stuff” in the pipeline.
In the midst of the struggle, there is some good news for our local economy. Most people know someone who owns a small business or whose job depends on a small business. Communities are pulling together, and shoppers are shopping local and supporting their favorite corner coffee shops and family owned stores, hoping to keep them afloat during the pandemic. Good news for shoppers, small businesses have the ability to closely monitor inventory levels and react to customer needs. So shopping local is a win-win this holiday season. You’ll likely find the best selection of unique, curated gifts while also supporting your neighbor and your local economy. But shopping local doesn’t
Mud Pie Oyster Trees
necessarily mean shopping in person. If the thought of leaving your protective bubble makes you as nervous as a long-tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs - fear not. Retailers have come up with several clever options. The 2020 holidays are expected to be the year for “BOPUS” (buy online, pick up in-store). This is a good method if you want to limit your time in a store. It’s also a good way to ensure your item will be available and not sold out when you get there. Most stores also offer curb-side pick-up. You can place your order online and call the store when you
arrive. And of course, you can have it shipped across town or across the country - but plan accordingly.
Not feeling the holiday spirit? Pandemic fatigue has set in, and we’re very much in need of some normalcy. The holiday season brings a strong temptation to throw Covid caution to the wind so we can sit around a tree with a mix of people from different households for an extended period of time. Gift exchanges and social gatherings are such a large part of the holiday season, but our officials tell us this is the year for cautious mingling, or you may bring home more than a fruitcake. If you aren't able to be together for the holidays, exchanging gifts can help bridge some of the distance we’re feeling. Now, more than ever, it’s important to stay connected and let people know you’re thinking about them.
2020 is the year for tangible gifts as opposed to experiential gifts like event tickets and travel that may or may not be possible. As much as we'd all love to see The Backstreet Boys, it's a gift that could result in some serious delayed gratification. And think about the recipient when gifting services. It may not be the best time for your grandmother to have her eyebrows waxed.
The holidays can be stressful even on a good year. This is definitely the time for comfort gifts because everyone is feeling some level of anxiety. Maybe it's because you can't be with your family or maybe it's because you can't get away from them. Go for nurturing gifts that compliment our current stay-at-home lifestyle. Think Fuzzy socks or bath and body products for a DIY spa day.
Gift boxes make giving a personalized gift really easy. Items in the gift box are carefully thought out to have a theme or purpose, and then arranged together to compliment each other. It’s completely gift-ready and perfect for those who don’t want to shop or just need inspiration. Either way...it's our little secret!
If you’re that person who looks forward to camping on the sidewalk to snag a Black Friday deal or strolling store aisles for hours, this year may look a little different. Time honored traditions like Black Friday shopping and gift exchanges are getting a makeover. But with a little planning and creativity, we can still find the right gift. And these days, a well thought out gift or small token of appreciation can go a long way to lift spirits. And as much as we may be craving grandma's mac and cheese, keeping our distance from those we love may be the most thoughtful gift of all. Yes, Christmas may look a little different than usual. We may not be going over the river and through the woods, but Santa Claus is still coming to town.

They say money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy candles and yes, that's a little jar of happiness. September is World Candle Month. The National Candle Association uses this time to celebrate the way candles enrich our lives. Okay, they probably won’t bring world peace, but candles really can have a positive affect on us and our surroundings. The first candles were used as a source of light. Most early Western cultures made candles from animal fat until beeswax candles were introduced during the middle ages. Candles remained the most reliable artificial light source until the introduction of the light bulb in 1879. If it weren't for Thomas Edison, we might be putting on our mascara by candle light. Candles no longer serve a utilitarian purpose, but they are still very much a part of our lives. You’ll find candles in seven out of ten homes in the U.S. So why this love affair with candles? Candles have been scientifically proven to be soothing. The gentle, hypnotizing quality of their light makes them a perfect aid for relaxation, and adding fragrance only enhances their power to calm us. Think about it. Who do you know that isn't stressed out? We’re all looking for comfort in a discombobulated world, and if we can find it in the bottom of a little jar of scented wax, so be it.
What is it about a candle that drives us to spend $30 on a glass of wax?
Ambiance - It's everything! Nothing can affect the mood of a room like a candle. We want our home to be a place of peace, arguably now more than ever. Studies show that soft light is calming on the body. The illumination of a candle can reduce anxiety and bring relaxation. We also want our home to be inviting. A few well-placed candles can make it feel warm and welcoming. A single candle in a large space can make it feel cozy and intimate.
Home Decor - These days, candles are designed to do much more than simply make homes smell good. They are a beautiful and inexpensive way to decorate and have become an important part of home decor. The fragrance and light of a candle can transform a room and add color and texture at a modest price. Manufacturers have raised the bar on candle presentation, incorporating home decorating trends and pantone colors into container design. So consider the space you are buying for. Choose a candle that compliments the room, so it doesn't feel like an afterthought. Looking to keep the earth green? Some candle companies incorporate sustainability in their products through utilizing recycled materials. Rewined Candle’s Signature Collection is the original wine bottle candle. Each candle is hand crafted from a recycled wine bottle and hand poured with 11 ounces of soy wax. Candle scents mimic the aromas found in your favorite varietals of wine. Made in Charleston, SC.
Fragrance - When choosing a fragrance, consider the space it is intended for. Living room scents should feel welcoming and relaxing. Light florals and scents of vanilla and honey are great. For the kitchen, look for scents that are familiar to the kitchen. Fresh herbs and citrus scents are pleasant and also help eliminate kitchen odors. But scented candles can interfere with the taste of your food so if you choose to use candles in the dining room, it's best to choose an unscented option. Clean scents like linen work well in bathrooms. Lavender is an excellent choice for the bedroom to promote relaxation.
Gifts - I’ll go out on a limb here and say a candle just may be the perfect gift. Why? Because candles are the chameleon of gifts. They're a gender neutral gift that can be very personal or very generic and will adapt to every gift giving occasion. And, as a consumable, one can rarely have too many candles. Just a humble opinion from someone who has been selling candles for twenty years. It sounds like most people agree. 65% of consumers say they have given a candle as a gift.
What could be better than a gift-ready candle? Need a hostess gift? A housewarming gift? Ella B candles celebrate our beautiful city and make the quintessential gift for every occasion.
I’m guessing you’ve heard the term “hygge” (pronounced hue-guh). It comes from an Old Norse word, “hugga,” which means to comfort or console. There is no exact English equivalent to this Danish word but it’s closest translation is “coziness.” It’s the Danish philosophy of living life in a more mindful, harmonious, kumbaya, warm-and-fuzzy kind of way. Candles are an essential ingredient in the hygge world. Danes go through more candles than any other nation on earth – a whopping 13 pounds of candle wax per person each year. The hygge trend has taken our country by storm as people look to disconnect from nonstop news and the glare of a computer screen. Watching the movement and rhythm of a candle flame has a similar effect to watching the twinkling of the stars or the flow of a river. It’s the perfect way to de-stress at the end of a day. Try burning candles as a transition from day to night. It is scientifically proven that reducing harsh artificial lighting before bed can help calm us and also help reset our natural sleep rhythms.
Although there are many different types of candles, they are not all created equal. Most candles contain four basic components: wax, a wick, fragrance, and a container. I know (insert yawn), but work with me people. You may learn something you can impress your friends with at the next cocktail party.
The Wax - There are many types of waxes used in candle making, including paraffin, soy wax, palm wax, coconut wax, and beeswax. There is a lot of debate over which wax is better for a candle and safer for the environment. The majority of candles on the market today are made from either paraffin wax or soy wax. Both waxes have to pass a series of tests and meet certain standards monitored by the US government before they can be marketed as a wax safe for use in candles. Paraffin is a byproduct of the oil purification process and the most commonly used candle material. Paraffin wax tends to hold fragrance better than soy wax. Soy waxes are newer to the market, having been invented in 1992. It is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans and thus a sustainable product. A well-made soy candle burns cleaner and up to 50% longer than paraffin wax. It also burns evenly, minimizing unburned wax left on the walls of the container. As you can see, different types of waxes bring different qualities to a candle. Thus many manufacturers blend two or more types of wax, capitalizing on the strengths of each.
The Wick - Once upon a time most of the metal-core wicks in scented candles contained lead, but in 2003 the United States banned lead wicks. Metal-core wicks are still used in container candles and votives to keep the wick upright when the wax liquifies. But today’s metal-core wicks are made with either zinc or tin, both repeatedly shown to be safe and non-toxic. If you have very old candles that have not been burned you can check for lead content by rubbing the tip of the wick on a piece of paper. A wick with lead will leave a mark much like a pencil would. Wooden wicks are relatively new to the candle scene. They provide a horizontal flat flame and give off a soothing, crackling sound when burning. Wood wicks require a tiny bit more care to keep them burning optimally.
The Container - Most importantly, your container should be heat resistant. But don't neglect the aesthetics of the container. A good candle holder will complement your home decor and be interesting to look at even when the candle is not lit. And size matters. Make sure you have the right size candle for the scent to permeate your room. The fragrance from an 8 ounce candle will cover 10 sq ft of space. Multi-wick designs with a larger surface area create larger pools of liquid wax, releasing a more intense fragrance.
The Scent - "Throw" is the term used to describe the strength of candle’s fragrance. Cold throw refers to how a candle smells before it has been lit. Hot throw refers to how a candle smells when it is lit and scenting the room. All candle waxes have a saturation point, meaning there is a limit to the amount of fragrance that can be added. Overly saturated fragrance leaves a layer of oil on top. Too little fragrance and the candle will have a weak scent throw. Candle fragrances are described in “notes,” a snazzy word referring to the different ingredients that make up a fragrance; floral notes, fruit notes, spice notes. It takes a carefully crafted combination of notes to create the perfect candle scent.
OYSTER CANDLE COMPANY
These triple scented soy blend candles by Oyster Candle Company are hand poured right here in the Lowcountry. Glass jars are accented with oyster shells recycled from local area restaurants.
Candle Care
Every candle has an estimated life span or burn time. How can you make a candle burn longer? You can’t. It burns shorter (sorry). But seriously, you actually can increase your candle’s burn time by caring for it properly.
Burn times are influenced by the height of the candle wick. The longer the wick, the quicker the candle will burn. Trim your candle wick with a wick trimmer each time you light it and during prolonged burning. If you notice the candle flame is dancing or unusually large, trim the wick shorter. Never burn a candle longer than 4 hours.
Always let your candle burn at least until the whole top layer of wax becomes liquid. This takes about an hour per inch of candle diameter. Otherwise the candle will burn a tunnel down the center instead of melting all the way to the edges. A candle has wax memory and will only burn as far as it did the last time. Tunneling shortens the lifespan of your candle and a smaller pool of wax throws a smaller amount of fragrance.
If caught early enough you can usually reset a slightly tunneled candle's memory. Here are four options worth trying: 1 - Use a spoon to remove the wax along the inside wall of the container. 2 - Put your candle under the direct heat of a blow dryer until the wax liquefies and smoothes out evenly. 3 - If you know your container can withstand it - heat oven to 175 degrees, place the candle on a baking sheet, heat for a few minutes until the wax melts and evens out. 4 - Wrap foil around the lip of the candle, leaving a hole in the middle so that the wick can still burn through properly. The heat trapped beneath the foil "roof" will cause the wax below to melt and even out.
Candles burn best in still air. If too much air disturbs the flame it may cause the candle to burn more quickly, unevenly, or cause the flame to flicker and produce soot. Blowing out a candle also produces soot and smoke. And it can create those annoying ash particles that get stuck in the wax. The best way to put out a candle is to use a candle snuffer, which puts the flame out by depriving it of oxygen. Never move your candle while it is burning or still hot.
Always burn your candle within sight, out of the reach of children and pets, and on a stable, heat resistant surface. Extinguish your candle when there is 1/2” of wax left in the bottom. This can prevent overheating the container and potentially burning the surface your candle is sitting on. Never move a burning or still melted candle.
Candles are for more than special occasions. They’re an indispensable part of home decor, and few gifts are more well-received than a candle. “I have too many candles,” said no one ever. We’re living in a world over-saturated with technology and bombarded with stimulation from every angle. Creating a relaxing space doesn't need to be a grand ordeal. The simple act of lighting a candle can transform the mood of a room. So if you’re suffering from FOWEC (fear of wasting expensive candles), stop waiting for a special occasion. Let's dust off that candle and light it.
Enjoy!

Remember the sheer joy of ripping the paper off the box and staring face to face with your very own Cabbage Patch Doll? As kids, there was nothing better than a gift with your name on it. As an adult we’ve realized that giving can be even more satisfying than receiving. Giving a gift is scientifically proven to bring more joy. In fact, when we give, our brain releases the same mood boosting endorphins that are released after a long, tough workout. Unfortunately, it doesn't burn the same amount of calories. But it's true - it really is better to give than receive.
So why do we give birthday gifts? Birthday celebrations are an old tradition, ancient in fact, with history spanning several continents. Over 2000 years ago, Romans threw lavish parties and gave birthday presents. While birthdays were celebrated around the world, German bakers were responsible for the invention of the birthday cake, and the Greeks claim to be first at putting candles on cakes. But there is an American connection. The "Happy Birthday” song was written in 1890 by two sisters from Kentucky. It's the song most frequently sung in the English language.
Flash forward to the 21st century when people have birthday celebrations for their pets. Some people celebrate their birthdays over a week, or claim a “birthday month.” Along with the cakes and streamers come the unwritten rules of gift giving. For some people, choosing a birthday gift can be agonizing. The most important rule - it’s not about you. To be successful at gift giving you simply need to know something about the person receiving the gift. Otherwise it can come off as a meaningless gesture, certainly not what you intended. Many years ago I was given a garage door opener for my
birthday. Granted, I didn't have a garage door opener. But I didn’t have new jewelry either. I came to realize that this practical gift was given from a place of love, but at the time, that’s not how it was received. Gifts are more than what's in the box. When we get caught up in the physical aspects of giving a gift, we miss the opportunity to make someone feel valued for who they are. You’ve probably been on the receiving end of a bad gift. You aren’t disappointed because the gift is inexpensive or poorly presented. You’re disappointed because of the lack of thought behind the gift. The perfect gift is one that says they “get me." They really know who I am, and their gift shows it. Gifts don't need to be expensive to make the recipient feel good. The best gifts are about the person and not about the price tag. We can get caught up focusing on what we want them to have or what the gifts says about us. Think about the person you’re celebrating and buy a gift that will have personal significance to them. A small but thoughtful gift can be priceless.
▪︎ October 5 is the most common birth date
▪︎ May 22 is the least common birth date
A gift should also match the depth of the friendship. A gift for a new friend would look much different than a gift for a friend that’s been with you through years of bad haircuts and terrible boyfriends. An overly personal or expensive gift to a new friend could be awkward. An impersonal gift to a bestie could be insulting, leaving them wondering if maybe the two of you are out of touch. In a professional setting, gifts should always be generic. You
know very little about their personal taste, so don’t get personal. Maybe Frank from accounting could use a nose hair trimmer, but that's a hard "no". Stick to a gift the average person would appreciate, like a candle or gourmet coffee with a coffee mug. For someone we don't know well, consumables make good gifts as one rarely has too much.
Understanding the recipients personality
is the first step in choosing the perfect gift.
JANUARY - Likes to be first, leader, strong work ethic, analytical, great with money, enjoys solitude.
FEBRUARY - Loving, loyal, builds long-term relationships, family is important, creative, loves projects.
MARCH - Ambitious, goal-orientated, introspective, vivid imagination, enjoys the simple things in life.
APRIL - Charismatic, born leader, great problem solver, great teacher, needs balance & structure.
MAY - Joyful attitude, sensitive, driven to succeed, works hard but enjoys adventure. Good with money.
JUNE - Kind-hearted, sensitive to the needs of others, puts great value on relationships, nurturer.
JULY - Spontaneous, extroverted, lives for adventure, candid, stays true to self, makes friends for life.
AUGUST - Magnetic personality, natural leader, sees the good in others, enjoys helping others succeed.
SEPTEMBER - Nonjudgmental, respects the views of others, likes organization, most likely to succeed.
OCTOBER - Craves balance and stability, has a positive outlook on life, charming, magnetic personality.
NOVEMBER - Fearless and passionate, determined to succeed, known for great ideas, values privacy.
DECEMBER - Builds long-lasting friendships, ambitious, driven at work, reliable, honest, intelligent.

Willow Tree® Mother Daughter Keepsake. Whether together or apart, always close at heart.
No one holds a place in our lives quite like our mom. She can be our greatest supporter and toughest critic, all at the same time. It's her birthday, and she’s always going to tell you she doesn't need a thing. She’s probably telling the truth. But sentimental gifts resonate with moms. A gift with emotional significance serves as a reminder that we have a family that loves us, whether they are with us or not.
treasured for years to come. Each pendant is available in 16", 22", and 32" 14K gold filled chain. Comes with linen jewelry pouch and verse reference card.
When someone is hard to buy for, sometimes we hedge our bets by buying them multiple gifts. But the recipient is likely to be happier with one thoughtful, reasonably-priced gift than with a bounty of hit and miss items. And maybe the reason someone is hard to buy for is because they have what they need or they buy what they want. In that case, a gift card is the perfect gift. While some would consider it impersonal, in a recent survey 85% of women said like receiving gift cards. Get creative with how you present it. Unwrapping a beautifully packaged gift card can be just as exciting as unwrapping a big present.
This brings us to the subject of gift wrap. It's the gift’s first impression and another opportunity to make the gift personal. Do they love a certain flower or color? Choose a wrapping that represents their interest. Are they environmentally conscious? Recycle fabric or a paper bag for gift wrap. The wrap builds up the anticipation of opening the gift. Never underestimate the joy of unwrapping a beautiful gift. It never gets old.
To be a gifted gift giver you just need to know your audience and shop accordingly. What’s worse than opening a gift and hearing, “I hope you like it. I always wanted one.” Gifting is meant to be a selfless act, and that requires leaving your ego out of it. Maybe you secretly long for a new garage door opener. In that case, buy yourself one. We give gifts to show our friends and family we are grateful for them and value the role they play in our lives. You don’t have to be psychic to pick the right gift. You just have to be observant. A well-thought-out gift is the greatest gift of all.
Happy Gifting!

Ahhh….summer. We hear the word, and our mind takes us to a relaxing vacation spot. Normally this time of year we'd be focused on sunshine and fruity drinks with a cute umbrella. Instead we’re in our pajamas eating dinner out of a take-out box. We interrupt Netflix with a news flash that will make you clutch your pearls. Yes, there really is a face mask mandate. In a matter of weeks face masks went from being called unnecessary to being called mandatory. Information is changing fast enough to give us whiplash. Unless excluded, the CDC now recommends cloth face masks be worn by the general public. Officials stress that masks should be in addition to all the other measures currently recommended for COVID-19 prevention. While wearing a mask won’t necessarily prevent you from getting sick, it can reduce spreading by those who are infected but have no symptoms. Bottom line, unless you plan to be a hermit, you’ll be needing a mask.
In the fog about face masks? Most people are! The science defining what makes a good cloth face mask is coming in as slow as molasses, making it difficult to know our priorities when searching for the right mask. We know that no mask is 100% effective at eliminating viral transmission. But testing suggests that both disposable and cloth masks can dramatically reduce transmission by reducing air exchange between people. Even bandanas and scarves can provide some protection, but

effectiveness of any face covering varies depending on a multitude of factors; Fit, material, number of layers, face shape, facial hair. Even sweat and humidity.
The best mask is the one you can tolerate wearing. Yes, protection is the obvious priority, but you also want something comfortable enough to actually wear. The challenge is to find the sweet spot.
1 - Protection - Here's the deal. We wear a face mask more to protect others than to protect ourselves. In this case, it's not about us. The mask is simply a barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling when we cough or sneeze. In theory, each person’s molecules are trapped behind their own mask. I’m protecting you, and you’re protecting me. Gaps from a poor fit can significantly decrease protection because air will take the path of least resistance and leak at the edges. So proper fit will prevent particles from going around the mask. The material should also help block particles from moving in and out through the surface of the mask. Fabrics with a dense weave and multiple layers are most protective.
2 - Comfort- If you can’t breathe well through a mask, you’re not going to want to wear it for very long. Look for a mask you can wear for a period of time without feeling the need to frequently adjust or remove it. Unfortunately, breathability and level of protection tend to go in opposite directions.
Pomchies Face Masks come in a 2 piece coordinating set. Choose from prints and solids. Made from soft sun protectant swimwear fabric. 82% Nylon 18% Spandex. UPF 50. So comfortable! |
3 - Durability - Choose a mask that can stand up to the wear and tear of daily use and laundering. The CDC says you can wash your mask with your regular laundry using the warmest water appropriate for the fabric.
4 - Style - Of course you should never choose a mask based entirely on aesthetics, but seriously, a mask is covering up some substantial facial real estate so who wants to wear an ugly mask? A cute leopard print can help make it all a little more tolerable.
Disposable or Reusable? Depending on the material used, surgical masks and reusable masks can be equally effective. But if you're worried about the number of disposable masks ending up in landfills, you should consider a cloth reusable mask. Just imagine the volume of single-use personal protection equipment used in a day and how that affects the environment. In a video shared online, surgical masks and gloves can be seen strewn along the ocean floor of the Mediterranean sea. If a disposable mask is your only option, of course you should wear it, but a reusable mask is a better long-term solution.
N95 - All FDA-cleared N95 masks are labeled as "single-use" and considered disposable. When used correctly this medical grade mask can filter at least 95% of small airborne particles. But while they are considered to be the Holy Grail of face masks, they are uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. Plus, they remain in short supply and thus should be conserved for people in healthcare.
Surgical masks - These disposable masks are usually blue rectangular pleated strips that fit loosely across your nose and mouth. Surgical masks shield against large droplets that can come from a sick person's cough or sneeze, but they can't block the tiny particles that may carry COVID-19. It becomes less effective after wearing and ideally should be thrown away after one use.
Reusable cloth masks, like this "Vera Bradley Seahorse Of Course Face Mask," should look pretty familiar to you. This is the type of mask the CDC recommends for the general public. But not all cloth masks are created equal. Researchers say it’s more about the quality of fabric than the type of fabric. High quality fabrics have a tighter weave and do a better job of blocking particles. And, natural fibers filter better than synthetics. Multiple layers are more effective than single
layers. Lighter colors reflect sunlight, and darker colors absorb heat which can make you hotter. When it comes to mask choosing a breathable fabric is mission critical.
Exhaled air is at body temperature, about 98 degrees. If a mask has poor air flow, the heat gets trapped behind the mask and can cause overheating on a humid day. Are your glasses fogging up? It's because warm air is escaping through the top of your mask. Try a mask with a flexible metal nose bridge. It helps mold your mask to your face for snug fit. Try washing your glasses in soap and water, then let them air dry. The soap leaves a protective film on the lens that helps prevent fogging. You can also purchase a commercial anti-fog spray or anti-fog wipes.
What do you do with your mask when you want to slip it on and off during the day? Shove it in your handbag or in a pocket? A mask lanyard is a lightweight practical accessory to help keep track of your mask. Attach the lanyard clips to the sides of your face mask. When you take it off, your mask hangs comfortably around your neck, out of the way but still handy. Face Mask Lanyard - $3.99
If you want a face mask with greater protection choose a mask that can accommodate a carbon filter. A series of layers will provide more places for virus particles to get stuck. Unlike adding more and more layers, a filter makes it easier to breathe and can help prevent overheating. Filters are particularly helpful if a mask is made from a loosely woven fabric with very little resistance to air flow. Filters need to be changed after 16-24 hours of use or if they become damp. Additional replacement filters are sold separately.
Snoozies Masks are multi-layered with a filter pocket, nose bridge, and adjustable ear straps. Comes in a pouch containing a mask and four PM 2.5 carbon filters. Adults & Youth | Prints & Solids |
At some point we all have to leave our homes and venture into public places. The use of a cloth face mask is particularly important in settings where social distancing is difficult to maintain. But don’t let wearing a face mask give you a false sense of security. A mask can’t provide 100% protection, but it can be very effective when combined with hand washing and social distancing. If the thought of breathing through 3 layers of fabric on a humid day gives you "resting mask face", go for a single layer option. You just need to find a mask that strikes a balance between comfort and safety. If your mask isn’t comfortable you won’t wear it for long.
Face masks are a part of everyday life for now. It's an inconvenience for all of us, but think of it as a little self-sacrifice to help protect our healthcare workers or maybe someone's grandma. But being responsible doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your style. Mask are now functional and fashionable. Staying safe and keeping others healthy never looked so good.

Jake from State Farm is wearing Khakis for a reason. They’re comfortable for the workplace and, as a neutral color, they match everything. The color brown says he’s reliable. His red shirt says he’s confident. Our clothes say more than we realize. Even when it’s not our intention, what we choose to wear says a lot about who we are. With much of our life put on pause, fashion has become more about comfort and a newfound love for lounge wear. We’re changing out of our night time pajamas for our daytime pajamas. Maybe you're a social butterfly looking forward to life less than six feet apart. Or maybe you were social distancing before it was cool. You're just fine in pajamas all day. We have abandoned our daily routines to handle important things, like searching for toilet paper online. We’re managing kids who would normally be at summer camp while juggling a conference call and folding laundry. The lines between our home life and our work life are blurred. If you’re working from home, dress code probably isn't a priority. I’ll admit it. I’m guilty of “work clothes from the waist up” for a Zoom meeting. But going through the motions of actually getting dressed for the day does help put us in a productive mindset. Start your positive momentum from the very moment you wake up. How?
Color spreads good vibes. Research shows choosing the right colors in our clothes has the power to affect our mood. Certain colors lower our stress. Others make us feel confident and empowered. But we gravitate to black because we just aren't sure what to do with color. We’ve been dressing ourselves since kindergarten, back in the day when we could care less what others thought. Maybe you still don’t. We respect that. Okay, maybe we're even a little bit envious. But somewhere along the way, for some of us, getting dressed got complicated. Is this too young? Too bright? Too busy? If making color decisions and deciding “what goes with what” is anxiety inducing, don’t buy the Garanimals yet. Let’s talk about the power of color and how we can easily combine colors and even prints that work in harmony.

Are you left brained, mostly analytical, or right brained, mostly artistic? The best dressed among us may rely on a little of both. Maybe your paper mache volcano scored first place at the school art fair. But you completely tuned out during the science lecture on Sir Isaac Newton and his color wheel. #UselessFacts. Maybe it wasn’t. Turns out coordinating colors in your outfit is a science and an art. Having a creative flair is a bonus but understanding how the color wheel works is a game changer.
The color wheel is basically the rainbow in a circle. It’s also a handy tool to understand the relationship between colors. The fundamental principle for matching clothes is combining colors that work in harmony. Based on the wheel, certain colors and variations of those colors pair together better than others. A variation is just a color mixed with black, white, or both to get different tones of the same color.
Wearing one color in different tones is called "monochromatic". When it comes to choosing colors, going monochromatic is a very safe choice. It’s just colors from the same family, so pick a color and run with it. When two or three colors are side by side on the wheel they are known as "analogous" colors, like red, orange, and yellow. These work together because they naturally blend together well. Colors that sit directly across, or opposite from each other, are called “complementary” or contrasting colors. It sounds contradictory but contrast makes your outfit more interesting.
Ready for red? It may be a little daring for you neutral girls. No worries. There is still plenty of room for neutrals in your wardrobe. A neutral is a color that doesn't compete with any other color and works well when combined. In the fashion world neutrals are more than black and white. Shades of grey, brown, olive, and navy, including denim are considered neutral. Too many neutrals at one time can come off as boring and uninspiring. But neutrals make good backdrops for introducing colors. Denim is the perfect neutral base. Jeans are the most versatile closet staple and the one piece of clothing that can be dressed up or down. With casual being the new norm, denim is the new black. Pair your favorite jeans with a cute graphic tee. It's an easy way to add color and hop on the graphic trend.
Kissed Apparel Leopard Lips Tee in Canvas Red |
Ilse Jacobson Tulip Shoes in Light Chestnut |
Prints are another easy way to add color as well as interest to your neutrals. Choose classic prints like stripes, florals, or dots. They are reinvented every season but they’re always in style. Animal print is a classic and it’s also season-less. Even if you can’t see yourself in leopard, add it in with accessories. A little animal print goes a long way so stick to one piece at a time.
But you can’t wear more color if you don’t buy more color. Try picking up an item you already love in a color you haven’t tried. Or your favorite color but in a print. More often than not, we choose what we wear based on color, or lack of. Or maybe it was the only thing clean. Head to toe neutrals say you want to blend in. A crimson red dress says you want to stand out. Maybe it's based on how we feel and even how we want others to feel about us. What does your go-to color say?
Red symbolizes confidence and courage. Being drawn to red clothing indicates you are an extrovert and passionate about life. It is a bold statement color that grabs attention, hence the reason it’s used for fire engines and stop signs. It is the color of authority and exudes a strong and powerful masculine energy. It can give confidence to those who are shy or insecure. Too much red and you’ll run the risk of looking too aggressive.
Orange is the color of joy and creativity. It is the blend of the happiness of yellow and the energy of red. It is the most flamboyant color. A person drawn to orange clothing is well liked and makes friends easily. Orange promotes positive emotional energy and a sense of general wellness. It also stimulates appetite which is why it is a popular restaurant color. Orange is bold and gains attention which can be perceived as self-centered.
Blue is the color of truth and wisdom and a universal favorite color. People associate blue with intelligence and trust. Seeing the color blue actually causes the body to produce chemicals that are calming making it a great color to wear to counteract tension around you. People who like blue are seen as loyal and reliable. It is the go-to color for a job interview, inspiring the blue power suit. Too much blue can come off as negative or sad.
Yellow is a cheerful color associated with laughter and optimism. Yellow is the most visible color and an attention getter. It can improve concentration and is great for boosting work productivity, energy, and your mood. The brain actually releases serotonin when exposed to yellow. The person who prefers yellow has a positive nature. Yellow in your wardrobe can subconsciously liven your mood. Some people feel that it’s indicative of immaturity.
Brown is the color of the earth. It is a steady and grounded shade It is comforting and nurturing and associated with things natural or organic. People who wear brown are slightly conservative and on the serious side. They are reliable and rational. This stable and grounded color helps you feel like you fit in and belong. Research has shown that the color brown is effective in promoting communication. Too much brown says you are boring.
Green is a calming color that’s very pleasing to the senses. It sits in the middle of the color spectrum and is considered the color of balance. People who like green tend to have an even temperament with a large social circle. Green is associated with the rebirth of spring and fresh growth after winter, but can also read as a lack of experience and need for growth. Use green to feel more relaxed, but too much green reads lazy and slow.
Black is a go-to for it's slimming qualities and because it's a neutral so it goes with everything. People who prefer to wear black strive for power and control in their life. Black is not an attention seeking color making it perfect for those who prefer not to stand out. Black is good in the professional setting showing authority and power. It can also be sexy and mysterious. Too much black can come across as being negative or depressed.
Pink is a romantic color and the color of true love. People who wear pink are perceived as nurturing and compassionate. Pink is the sweet side of the color red. While red represents heat and passion, the color pink represents romance and charm. It is the most calming of all colors. Bright pink is flirtatious. Soft pink is considered calm, warm and feminine. It creates a relaxed feeling. Wearing a large amount of pink can be read as being weak.
This Be Kind Graphic Tee is on trend with tie dye and an inspiring message. |
It wouldn't be summer without a little white in our wardrobe. With all of the confusion about when to wear white, it's no wonder we run the other way. Is it after Easter or after Memorial Day? It's definitely before Before Labor Day, right? The only rule people seem to agree on is "Don't wear white to a wedding," unless of course you're the bride. The color white can be seen as a blank slate, like a white piece of paper not yet written on. It represents new beginnings and a path to change. People who wear white enjoy simplicity. And honestly, life is anything but. Less-than-perfect times can be the perfect time to reinvent yourself. Sometimes you just need to hit the reset button.
We are thankful for those on the front lines and consider ourselves lucky if we can work from the safety of our home. But it’s hard to find motivation for self-care when we’re eating junk food in our pajamas all day. Having a routine makes us feel more in control. Eat balanced meals. Go for a walk. Get some sunshine. Most importantly, get up and get ready for the day as you normally would. On days we don’t feel our best, the clothes we wear can make us feel better. Don’t overlook the power your wardrobe can have on your mindset.
Just be you

Raise your hand if you've ever said it. "But I have nothing to wear."
There you are, in your closet, overwhelmed with choices but still feeling like you have nothing to wear. So what does that little voice in your head say? Time to go shopping. Brace yourself. A closet full of clothes and nothing to wear means you need less clothes, not more. You just need the right clothes. I'm sure you’ve heard of the 80/20 rule. Well, it applies to clothes as well. We wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time. So over half of your closet is a waste of hangers. It's time to donate the cashmere sweater that still has tags. The average temperature in January was 57 degrees. And the sweater is chartreuse, a color almost no one can wear.
Let’s talk about why you are buying the wrong clothes. Maybe it’s a little too much retail therapy. Let's face it, a cute dress can change the world. But too often we fall into the Goldilocks trap. We buy something that’s just right, just not right for us. There is a difference between clothes you like and clothes you'll wear. So you end up with a closet full of fabulous clothes that are just right - for someone else. You’re buying the wrong clothes because you don’t understand your personal style. So relax. There is plenty of shopping in your future. But first you need to better understand your style and how to better dress your body. When you do, you can use fashion to your advantage.
What is fashion?
It’s much less complicated than it seems. Fashion is tangible. It’s shirts and shoes and dresses. Who decides what’s fashionable? We do! We vote with our money. If we leave it on the rack it goes away. If we buy it and wear it, then other people buy it and wear it, and it becomes a trend. But fashion is fickle and trends come and go quickly because they only appeal to a few. Many trends go away only to come back. Sometimes they shouldn’t, like shoulder pads. Some trends never really go away because they have broader appeal. They become classics, like the little black dress.
What is style?
While fashion is tangible, style is not. Style is the way we use fashion, the way we show the world who we are through the choices we make. Fashion is what everyone wears. Style is what you wear. Understanding your personal style is key to making the best fashion choices. It’s about developing a sense of self, rather than blindly following trends. This clarity keeps you from spending money on things you’ll wear once, if at all. If it doesn’t make you feel comfortable and confident, it doesn’t belong in your closet. Feeling good in your clothes starts with the right fit. That means buying for your body. Let’s look at four of the more common body types.
Rectangle Shapes tend to be tall and lean. Shoulders and hips are about the same size and waist is not well defined.
Goal : Create the illusion of a waist by adding volume to the top and bottom or by making the waist appear slimmer with a belt or tucked in shirt. Avoid flowy or boxy tops that make you appear shapeless.
Apple Shapes
have shoulders broader than hips. Waist is not well defined. Slim legs. Carries weight in midsection.
Goal: Highlight best features, the bust, legs, and arms, to pull attention from your waist. Wear A-line silhouettes, loose tunics, sleeveless dresses and avoid excessive fabric in the mid-section.
Hourglass Shapes are naturally balanced
with bust and hip measurements nearly the same. Well defined waist. Weight distributed equally throughout the body.
Goal: Maintain balance by avoiding shapeless or loose clothes. Accentuate the waist with tucked in tops and belts and avoid excessive fabric in the mid-section.
Pear Shapes have hips wider than shoulders. Well defined waist. Most weight carried in hips and thighs.
Goal: Draw attention above the waist with bright colors, prints, and embellishments. Wear fitted clothes and belts to accentuate the waist. Avoid pleats and patterns below the waist. Go for dark solid bottoms.
Most of us don't fit neatly into one body type description. And maybe you have no desire to camouflage what you may consider your best feature. What matters is that your clothes fit in a way that makes you feel comfortable and confident. Buying what fits your body is half of the fashion formula. Buying what fits your style is the other. Now let's look at common fashion styles.
This Ellie Vail chunky 18-karat gold-plated necklace will add unapologetic glamour to your look. 18" adjustable chain. |
Trendy Style - You never play by fashion rules. Your style is a moving target, changing with new trends and often following several trends at one time. You shop like it's your job (hello soulmate), spending money every season to put the newest colors and styles in your closet. You have a love affair with accessories and are most likely to choose leather boots over paying rent. After all, you need one statement piece to complete your look.
You’re usually the first to wear a trend and probably the trendsetter for your friend group.
Bohemian Style - This nod to 70’s hippie fashion is most loved by the wanderer. You are a free spirit and most comfortable in flowy fabrics and loose layers. Yes, it’s all about layering and you do it so well. Bring on the funky patterns, tassels, embroidery, crochet, and fringe. All at the same time. Accessories are just as important as clothes. Jewelry is layered and heavily embellished with stones and beads and feathers. Do you see a pattern here? It’s just not your style to conform to one look. So you do it all at once and make it seem effortless.
Susan Shaw hand casted 24K gold-plated Oyster Shell Necklace features a genuine freshwater pearl necklace. 16" adjustable. |
Classic Style - To you, clothes are an investment. You don't mind paying full price for good fabrics and styles that are timeless. Your best friend is your tailor because fit is everything. Your favorite pattern is a solid. On the rare occasion you buy a print, it's probably a stripe and the stripes must line up correctly. You often buy more of the same pants or the same top in different colors. While others might call your closet limited, you call it efficient.
Jewelry is understated and traditional like diamonds and pearls. Makeup and hair must be “done”.
Casual Style - It’s not that you don’t care about fashion, but you'd rather be chilling with friends than shopping. You are all about comfort and feel your best in simple loose clothing with minimal makeup and low maintenance hair. You prefer quality natural fabrics that are easy to wear and easy to take care of. You may not even own an iron. Your mostly neutral color palette allows for easy mix and match. Accessories are simple and must be functional. You won’t find any flamboyant “look at me” prints or fussy fabrics in this closet.
The Hobo Flare Shoulder Bag is a simple silhouette featuring a wide strap, beautiful brass hardware details, and flawless functionality.
|
Maybe you don’t see yourself in any of the above or you identify with a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Putting a label on your style isn’t necessary. But knowing what you’ll ultimately wear is. Having a functional closet comes down to one thing: focus. That means buying with a purpose and not letting a chartreuse cashmere sweater distract you. Yes, you’ll still be tempted to splurge on the “hot and now”. We’re talking fashion here, not doughnuts. But check yourself before you wreck yourself. Choose one or two pieces that work with what you have. Or opt for a new accessory piece, an easy and more affordable way to follow a trend.
Great style doesn't come from having more options - it comes from knowing who you are and what you feel good wearing. The good news? Your shopping days are far from over. Now it’s time to build a wardrobe that fits your style and the body you’ve been blessed with. Trends will come and go but style is always in fashion. May you never again utter the words, “But I have nothing to wear!”
Just be you

As it turns out, summer may not be canceled after all. And while it might feel like summer already, it officially begins this Saturday. As restrictions start to lift many of us are stepping out of our altered reality bubble for the first time in months. And the air is already as thick as your Aunt Betty’s gravy. But if you’re a local, then you’ve come to terms with humidity, even if your hair hasn't.
So hello summer, my old friend. It goes without saying that your vacation probably won’t be exactly what you planned and even your staycation may include a socially distanced spot on the sand. Whether you’re headed lakeside, oceanfront, or to a crystal blue pool, some planning and organization can mean a little less frustration and a lot more fun. So let’s get this party started.
It's in the bag.
A day at the beach requires a bag that can hold almost as much as a Chevy Tahoe. And unless you want to waste your beach day digging through your bag, you need a tote with a designated pocket for everything. We have your bag! SCOUT is known for super functional lightweight bags that are roomy enough to carry it all. The best selling SCOUT BJ tote (named after SCOUT President, Ben Johns) is made from durable all-weather woven fabric rugged enough to toss on the boat or take a tumble at the pool. Best of all, you’ll find just the right pocket for all of your necessities.
Are you ready for a trip down memory lane? Maybe you remember the jelly accessories trend from the late nineteen hundreds.
Okay, the eighties.
The Sun Jellies brand is inspired by vintage designs many of us remember all too well. Now you can enjoy them all over again. The bags are 100% recyclable, washable, and reusable and the colors are yummy. It’s perfect for the beach and honestly, it’s just a happy bag. And we all need some happy.
Protect yourself.
The sun has a reputation for being a troublemaker but it does have some positive effects on our health. Did you know your body makes vitamin D when your skin is exposed to sunlight? The sun is also said to impact melatonin production and even boost your mood. But since you’re a smart cookie, we don’t need to tell you why you should always wear sunscreen. That means save some room in your beach bag. Go for a broad-spectrum sunscreen that covers both UVA and UVB rays. On particularly hot days or if you plan to swim, “water-resistant” sunscreens are more tolerant of sweating and swimming. And lounging under an umbrella doesn’t mean you have it made in the shade. Harmful UVA rays bounce off of reflective surfaces like water and sand. Helpful Hint: Don’t forget your knees and the tops of your feet. Stop. You know you’ve done it.
Chill out.
No day trip is complete without a cooler but unless you're an octopus, it's a real challenge to carry all of this stuff. That's why a lightweight functional cooler is a must. SCOUT’s Pleasure Chest is a best seller and just the right size for a day trip. It fits a six-pack and still leaves room for food containers. Did you know many seasonal foods have a high water content? Watermelon, strawberries, and cucumbers are refreshing, hydrating, and travel well. So in to the cooler they go, next to your Pellegrino. The Pleasure Chest has a wide shoulder strap for carrying and - bonus, this soft insulated cooler folds flat. So just toss it into your tote bag when you’re packing up for the day.
Hot! Hot! Hot!
Did you know sand can be as hot as 130 degrees in the heat of the day? We’ve found our favorite cute + comfortable + colorful summer shoe. The Tulip by Ilse Jacobsen is already a store favorite. The perforated design makes them breathable which means cooler fresher smelling feet! Best of all, they’re waterproof making them just right for the beach or boat. Just slip them on and y’all - they feel amazing on your feet!
I'll have water please.
It's all about balance. There are varied opinions on how much water we should drink daily. But we do know this, when there’s more going out than there is going in - Houston, we have a problem. Heat is especially tough on us because we lose water through sweat. So in the summer we can quickly be running on empty. Just know that we shouldn't wait until we’re thirsty to drink water because at that point we’re already dehydrated. And, what we drink does matter. Sorry, but Rosè all day is not hydrating. Caffeine and alcohol are both considered diuretics. Drinking water is the best way to stay hydrated in the sun and getting into the habit of keeping a water bottle with you makes it easier. Of course a cute water bottle is a plus. Swig has partnered with Scout to create the perfect summer drinkware. This collection features triple insulation technology all wrapped up in a cute SCOUT summer print. Swig keeps your drink cold for up to 24 hours. Now that's some slow southern sipping.
Don't throw in the towel.
Towels are a necessity for your day on the water but who wants to deal with a waterlogged sandy towel? Microfiber towels are a great alternative to cotton. This super lightweight fabric absorbs more than twice its weight in water and dries 3x faster than cotton. Katydid Microfiber towels measure a generous 63” X 31” yet will roll up and fit neatly into a matching carry bag. Best of all, they are sand resistant! So go ahead and slather on the sunscreen and skip the sand.
No squinting!
Top it all off with a cute pair of sunnies! Our eyes are very sensitive. High-quality sunglasses help protect from damaging rays that can cause a host of ailments. Even with a hat or visor you should still wear sunglasses. They can protect your eyes from windblown particles, like sand, that can scratch and cause permanent eye damage. And besides all of that, mom says squinting causes wrinkles.
We love Nectar Sunglasses, based in Charleston! These super affordable sunglasses ($44.99) are polarized and come with a lifetime guarantee. The name, Nectar, is a nod to the cause they support - The Bee Cause Project - which helps repopulate endangered honey bees in the United States. Sweet!
If you've spent any time near the water you know how calming it can be. It’s not all in your head. Or maybe it is. Research shows the brain releases “happy hormones” when we’re near the ocean. Imagine the sound of the waves rolling in, the smell of salty air, the sun on your face. Whether you prefer a lazy river or sitting on the nearest dock of the bay, the water is calling your name. Find a spot. Relax. Take a selfie. The tan will fade but the memories will last a lifetime.
Just be you.
- Quote of the Day -
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few moments. Even you.

Before now, most of us had never worn a face mask or even considered how we might incorporate a face mask into our wardrobe. Yet experts suggest that face masks may need to be worn for the foreseeable future. The CDC states, "Cloth face coverings are an additional step to help slow the spread of COVID-19 when combined with social distancing."
Welcome to the new normal.
When life hands you a lemon, put a pattern on it.
From experts in the field of public health to your mother’s kitchen table, there is no shortage of opinions on wearing a face mask. One thing is for sure, face masks are the newest accessory to enter the fashion scene. People are searching for ways to combine personal protection and personal style. If Project Runway’s Tim Gunn were here, he’d say,
"Make it work."
The point is if you choose to wear a mask you can still do it with style. So chin up, buttercup.
Six months ago, if someone mentioned getting a face mask, you probably visualized spending the afternoon with your favorite esthetician. Hello 2020. Experts continue to recommend reserving N95 masks for our healthcare workers, leaving the rest of us searching for mask alternatives. Many manufacturers have refocused their businesses to address this urgent need. Chances are your grandmother has already crocheted you a mask or maybe you’ve tried a DIY mask project yourself. Bottom line, the market is now fraught with unique face-covering finds. They can be disposable, washable, tie in the back, have ear holes or elastic loops. Some are single layer, double layer, some have filter pockets...
Choosing the right mask to wear is only half the battle. Putting it on correctly is equally important. While it seems pretty straight forward, the details matter. Masks can be worn for different reasons, to protect the wearer, or to protect others. But in many cases, people are wearing masks all wrong. It needs to be seated properly on your face, fitting your face snugly without gapping. Like your favorite pair of jeans. “Wearing a mask takes some getting used to, for sure,” said Dr. Scott Segal, chairman of anesthesiology at Wake Forest Baptist Health. “You are probably wearing it exactly right if it’s a little stuffy.”
Tie dye is having a moment, even when it comes to face masks. For many, it's a throwback to childhood days of summer camps and sleepovers. This DIY craft re-surged in popularity as a quarantine pastime. As did dying our own hair. But that's a discussion for another day.
Styling your mask - is that even a thing?
For most of us this face mask culture is completely new. But for many Asian countries, mask-wearing is a cultural norm that began with the onset of Spanish Flu over 100 years ago. People continued to wear them, not only to combat disease but also as a way to protect themselves from pollen and pollution. Over the years face masks have grown to be a form of self- expression, leading manufacturers to push the fashion angle. So, although masks as a fashion accessory aren't exactly new on the scene, they also aren't for the faint of heart. It’s going to take some time and maybe a jar of Nutella to wrap our heads around this.
But seriously...what about my make-up?
Chances are you can skip the full-face makeup routine. It could prove to be a sticky waste of time and expensive makeup. But what a perfect time to highlight your eyes. Try more dramatic eye makeup or an extra coat of mascara to bring attention to your eyes. Or go bold with the brows. Bold eyebrows give your eyes the illusion of being larger.
But the world doesn’t feel friendly when we’re all wearing a mask!
It's tough to read facial expressions behind a face mask. Trying to communicate without seeing someone’s expression is a lot like text messaging. Things get lost in translation. Making eye contact is the best way to connect in a conversation. Keep in mind, people have varying levels of comfort with locking eyes. It can go from comfortable to creepy very quickly. “Security!”
Does it all have to match?
Honestly, it was my first thought. But then I would be the one wearing “twin sets” if I had been around in the 1950s. There’s not a right and wrong answer because it totally depends on your own aesthetic. If your style is eclectic, then mix patterns and colors that complement each other. If you prefer the minimalist approach, go monochromatic. Hey, we just negotiated a pandemic and you’re trying to be socially responsible. If it makes you happy, go totally matchy-matchy Hello Kitty from head to toe.
Just be you.

Fashion is what you buy. Style is what you do with it.
